Last week when we discussed 5 tips to improving your living space, we talked about keeping our homes clutter free. It sometimes feels as though no matter how hard I try, clutter keeps finding its way in my space. It is like it did not get the memo that it was no longer welcomed in my life… Seriously! Anyways, here are 5 easy DIY projects that helped me a lot in our separation (you know… clutter and I). I am sure they will certainly help you tame that unruly clutter.

Re-purpose your old shoe boxes

I love shoes and I always end up with a bunch of boxes I have no idea what to do with. Well guess what, I decided to turn them into utility bins for under my bathroom sink to hold hair and beauty products.

Supplies

2 shoe boxes with lids

1 roll of self-adhesive shelf liner

1 roll of fabric tape

A tape measure, pair of scissors, a pen, and some glue to stick the lids under the boxes

I had a lot of fun making these bins. Basically, all you need to do is measure the sides of your boxes and lids, then cut the length of liner you need to cover each one. I added the fabric tape to the borders to give a fancier look. You do not need to cover the bottom of each box since you will add the covered lids to them. I got all my supplies (except the boxes) from the dollar spot at Target and the Dollar Tree, so it is a very affordable project. It is a little time consuming but I think it is definitely worth it.

Recycle paper towel rolls

A little can of gold spray paint, a glue gun, two empty rolls of paper towel, two sheets of paper towel, a pair of scissors, some duct tape and voila! A bracelet holder that will cost you virtually nothing and that you will be proud to say you made it yourself. This one was literally one of my very first projects. I am still very proud of it even though I have since found a new storing alternative for my favorite pieces; I got tired of them being on display. Also if you choose to give it a try, make sure you spray some mod-podge over the whole thing before using it. I forgot to do it the first week and I could see some gold residue when I touched it. Mod-podge definitely made it better.

Undies Drawer Divider

I found this idea in my oh-so-dear Good Housekeeping magazine and I had to try it out. Folding was not doing the trick for me anymore. Well to say the truth, I could never keep my underwear drawer tidy longer than the day after I organized it. It is so much easier now.

Supplies

Cardboard posters

Glue gun or stapler

Scissors

Steps

Simply glue/staple together cardboard strips to make cubbies or little cylinders to fit your undies. Personally I opted for the cubbies but I was not about to share a picture of my drawer here so I found one online with the stapled together cylinders. They are just as efficient.

From Pens to Make-up Brushes Holder

I found a simple black pen holder in the office section at Walmart that I would normally have no use for since I currently do not own a desk. But that was before I saw a future more promising for this piece. I may not have had pens to hold but I had make-up brushes. So again, I spray painted it gold after I randomly placed some elastic bands around it. Then, using a stencil, I added this burgundy fleur-de-lis pattern.

Supplies

Black pen holder, gold spray paint, burgundy acrylic paint, elastic bands, stencil, stencil brush (I got all my supplies from Walmart by the way)

Picture Frame? How about catch all tray?

A beautiful picture frame can be used for much more than just displaying your favorite memories; at least I think so. I fell in love with this frame from Ross when I saw it. But I knew right then and there I was not going to use it for a picture. I wanted to be able to admire it every day. So here it is, my catch all tray. I found the perfect place to keep my everyday jewelry as well as my scents of the moment. I added a piece of craft paper that can be changed every time I feel like. $5 well spent!

Here you have it guys, 5 easy DIYs to organize your space. I hope you give them a try and when you do send me some pictures. I would love to see your twist to them. I hope you will have as much fun as I did and love every piece. As always, Love is the Key.
